The wedding season is slowly creeping up on us all and the major question of “who will be responsible for the music on the big day? is not yet answered. To find a wedding DJ for your event should not be too serious of an affair, but if you are well prepared, finding a Wedding DJ will be elementary.
Your Vision
No-one knows how you envision your event more than you. Make sure that you can understand what will make this party a success for you and your guests. Are your guests are calmer, enjoy spending a great time together and getting home at a reasonable hour or are they the crowd that want to see the sunrise? This makes all of the differences with your choice of DJ. There are DJs that will charge you a premium after their set time is completed, and there are others that have all-included option.
Your Music
The only thing more important than the music is the professionalism, but the music is still so crucial. All DJs out there have their primary speciality, then their secondary and then the music that they have a light knowledge of. With tens of thousands of songs that are available from different generations and current hits, there is a lot to keep up with. Certain DJs will be able to manage your personal favourites more than others. Make sure you have a framed playlist where you can reference to your potential DJ to see if you are on the same dancefloor.
Feel free to ask your DJ for prior playlists of his weddings. It should not be difficult to provide. Also, asking for a mix could be more difficult due to the fact that a 2hr mix does not show the ability to change the mood and read the guests. Not to mention it is time consuming for everyone involved.
The money is always an important detail when it comes to the services that are desired and absolutely necessary. Every celebration is different and each couple brings their own energy and personal vision of how their wedding should be remembered and no 2 budgets are a-like. DJs tend to follow the same rule. No 2 DJs have the same pricing. Most likely, because the pricing depends on the :
- Hours of Mixing
- Distance to Venue
- Equipment required
- Installation / Strike-down of equipment
- Preparation of Music
- Experience
The above mentioned and not limited to, are all of the factors that can be included in the price. Depending on your region, the budget to find a Wedding DJ can range between $750 to $2,000 and even above $5,000 for the more extravagant affairs.*

Your Feeling
Never forget to meet with your potential DJs. Aside from the fact that you do not want to have any surprises on the day where there are other things more important to deal with, but in my opinion it is critical to have a great interaction with the person that will create the audio and visual ambiance for your wedding. If the DJ does not have the time to meet, that is a warning sign. The feeling is too important to try and go with the flow on the day of the event. A simple coffee between the DJ and the couple (or organisers) can make the decision much simpler based on the intangible connections.
